What are your thoughts on cold calling

I am curious what your thoughts are on cold calling. Let me ask you a few questions:

  • Do you use it in your sales?
  • Is it something encouraged by your company?
  • How successful is it?
  • What are you cold call to close ratio?

    I’ve never had to cold call, thankfully, if you don’t count selling candy bars or popcorn for school or scouts. I will say this: that ‘the next level’ of sales leads can be expensive, and sometimes takes the form of cold-calling. I ponder that with my marketing … I know what works and what I am paying for, but to get 10-15% more leads for my sales guys, might cost me double what I’m currently spending. And it looks way too expensive.

      I guess my question is, by extrapolating from previous data, what results would come from 10-15% more leads. In other words, what is the lead to close ratio? It might not justify the extra expense.
