Right on Red: Right or Privilege

Right on Red … Is it a right or a driving privilege? I’m getting closer and closer to hitting cars in the back end and no, not from tailgating. They are pulling out in front of me at red lights. The right on red laws were never meant to be used like most people are currently using them, but that doesn’t stop them.

Braking hard at red lights

What’s your take on this situation? Is it getting worse or is it just me? Let me know in the comments.

I make my worst decisions (and some unintended) when I’m stressed out, not even ‘distracted’. Maybe the whole ‘economy’ thing is wearing people out and thus more pull-outs when they should be sit-stills.

You may be on to something. My last adventure was with a UPS truck. He pulled up to the red light and without looking my way, pulled out in front of me. I was almost to the intersection with a 45mph speed limit. It was all I could do to not hit him. Of course, the UPS driver might have had mp3 player earbuds stuck in too, since they don’t have radios. I’ve noticed more of them doing that, which is another distraction.

What concerns me is how dangerous it is getting for all of us.
