I guess my question is, by extrapolating from previous data, what results would come from 10-15% more leads. In other words, what is the lead to close ratio? It might not justify the extra expense.

I've never had to cold call, thankfully, if you don't count selling candy bars or popcorn for school or scouts. I will say this: that 'the next level' of sales leads can be expensive, and sometimes takes the form of cold-calling. I ponder that with my marketing ... I know what works and what I am paying for, but to get 10-15% more leads for my sales guys, might cost me double what I'm currently spending. And it looks way too expensive.

Yeah, Texas causes a lot of issues for companies. My recently former company never got used to it. They had requirements, but hated paying what it cost to accomplish. They began cutting back and then complained at the results.

Then they would ask me to do something without thinking about what was required. My territory, driving from one end to the other was about 16-17 hours and 6-7 hours wide. Soooo ... just run over to so-and-so and take care of something. Okkkaaaayyy, that's about a nine hour drive ... Oh, never mind ... etc.

I wish. I'd snap you up for sure! But I'm sure the mileage rules if I read them would have an exception for Texas on account of its size.

Jeffrey, I normally mark these type comments as spam and delete, but I went and spent some time on data.com and I like the idea. A wiki-style database of companies and people ... great idea. I assume you are an affiliate marketer of data.com, although I'm not sure.

Thanks Dave. I view this as one of the essential parts of successful selling. From reading books, blogs, and other sales products, you and I may be the only ones that see this as critical to success. I saw the black-hole affect first hand every day for years, and sadly, there is no way to quantify the dollars lost. We can only make educated guesses.

Frequently when I followed up with a rep to see if they had done what they told the customer/prospect, the answer was "not yet." When I asked "when" they wouldn't know. Sad but true ...

When doing my marketing I have found that the best way to generate leads through cold calling and cold emailing is to start with a good list of the right people to contact.

If you click on my name here, you will go to a great online service where you can get FREE emails and phone numbers for people you want to contact.
