As you know, I am obsessed with improving my gas mileage. With the price of gasoline as high as it is, fractions of MPGs can make a significant difference in monthly costs.

I have tried many different ways to increase the mileage of my 2007 Dodge Magnum and this video goes over them along with the results. The end result might surprise you, so let me know what you think.

(I wondered where this video was on the website. I just found it saved as a draft, never published. I apologize for this oversight.)

You read that right … I now have the numbers for the long term average gas mileage on my 2007 Dodge Magnum. In the video I report to you the average gas mileage for each of these tires, plus the Goodyear Integrity tires the car came with.

[display_podcast]

I now have 138,000 miles on the Magnum with the first 42,000 on the Goodyears, the next 84,000+ on the Pirelli P4s and finally, approximately 12,000 miles on the Michelin HydroEdge tires. (Your mileage may vary depending on your calculator)

UPDATE: I’m at 155,000 miles … still need to replace the spark plugs, and the gas mileage is starting to dwindle. For the last three months, the mileage has dropped to 24.1 and it is getting very sluggish.

NEW TOP PRIORITY: replace plugs and wires. The only bad news, it’s an all day job on this engine.

Since installing the Michelin HydroEdge tires, I’ve put a little over 10,000 miles on them and thought a quick review was in order.

In the video I go over a few pluses of the HydroEdge compared to the Pirelli P4 tires that preceeded them.

[display_podcast]

One of the things I forgot to discuss in the video is the singing. The Pirelli tires were whisper quiet, but the Michelins perform like an opera singer on some road surfaces. In particular on concrete freeways with a brush finish.

The other topic is gas mileage. I have done all the math and have the results, but that is for another day. Stay tuned.

I don’t want to give away too much outside the video, but I have to say, I sure am glad I decided on the Magnum back in March 2008. With over 125,000 miles, I’m still loving it.

This is the final video in my four part review of my 2007 Dodge Magnum. As you’ve already seen, I put the miles on rapidly and by the time you watch this video, I will have topped 122,000 miles.

I get the oil and filter changed every month, and the tires balanced and rotated every two months. I stick with 4000 miles for the oil change and 7000-8000 for the tires.

[display_podcast]

A quick update on the Pirelli P4 tires. I now have over 75,000 miles on them and I believe another 15,000 is quite doable. I’ll let you know when I have to replace them.

What kind of tires do you run, and would you recommend them for high mileage runs? I’d like to hear your thoughts in the comments.

I have been driving my 2007 Dodge Magnum since the last week in March 2008. It was an employee lease car and hit the dealer lot at the same time as a ton of Dodge Chargers.

In the next four video posts, I will post the basics, the good, the bad, and a final overview of over two years, and now over 120,000 miles.

[display_podcast]

For some reason with this set of four videos didn’t sync the video and audio properly. I’m still trying to figure out the problem, but the information is still valid.
