Gas Mileage Wars – Michelin Hydroedge vs. Pirelli P4

(I wondered where this video was on the website. I just found it saved as a draft, never published. I apologize for this oversight.)

You read that right … I now have the numbers for the long term average gas mileage on my 2007 Dodge Magnum. In the video I report to you the average gas mileage for each of these tires, plus the Goodyear Integrity tires the car came with.

I now have 138,000 miles on the Magnum with the first 42,000 on the Goodyears, the next 84,000+ on the Pirelli P4s and finally, approximately 12,000 miles on the Michelin HydroEdge tires. (Your mileage may vary depending on your calculator)

UPDATE: I’m at 155,000 miles … still need to replace the spark plugs, and the gas mileage is starting to dwindle. For the last three months, the mileage has dropped to 24.1 and it is getting very sluggish.

NEW TOP PRIORITY: replace plugs and wires. The only bad news, it’s an all day job on this engine.

Test: Running Regular Unleaded for a Month

Running a test on my Dodge Magnum

My 2007 Dodge Magnum has the 3.5L V-6 HO engine which requires Mid-Grade gasoline to function its best. A few videos back, I mentioned I was interested in running a little experiment. I thought I would fill up Inara with Premium for a month and track to see the difference in power or gas mileage.

Well, the HUGE increase in gasoline prices have changed my thinking. Now I’m running Inara on Regular Unleaded gasoline and tracking the difference. I know it’s not the same, but I live in the real world.

Alamo City LX Car Club Meet Up

I attended the March 6, 2011 Alamo City LX Club coffee meet up in San Antonio, Texas. A good group showed up and I have a few pictures and a couple of videos to prove it. This was my first chance to meet the club members, finding them and joining online last month.

Something else I noticed is the different wheels on display. I admit it, I have a fascination with wheels and this was a chance to see many different styles on similar cars at the same time.

Then, since I’m still getting to know my new video camera, I took a couple of short videos you might enjoy. In the first video, I walked down the line of cars getting a close-up of each, and just enjoying the view.

In the second video, the meet up is over and the group is leaving the parking lot heading to eat at a location south of downtown. Yes, there are a few small displays of testosterone, but it’s very civil.

Several times each month, a new coffee shop is picked and anyone who can come, shows up to drink to joe, meet new friends, and visit with old ones.

I had a blast and can’t wait for the next chance to get together with this guys and girls.

Just fyi … tomorrow March 13th, the group is going to cruise the five Missions of San Antonio and meet up for lunch. Too bad I can’t attend. Maybe next time.

2007 Dodge Magnum February 2011 Statistics

Beginning in January, this is the second installment of statistics for my 2007 Dodge Magnum. The month of February 2011 has my Dodge Magnum with 154,000 miles on the odometer. I didn’t drive quite a many miles as normal, but with it being a short month, it is enough.

Miles Driven: 3094 miles
Average MPG: 24.446
Maximum MPG: 25.803
Minimum MPG: 22.746
Average $/gallon: 3.136
Expenditure: $481.76

The total miles is 800 less than in January, but the average MPG is up .5MPG. The bad part is that the monthly average gas price rose $.09/gallon.

There are dozens more statistics available from the program I use, aCar, but that would just bore everyone.

Dodge Magnum gets a Cold Shower

Today is such a pretty day, and Inara, my 2007 Dodge Magnum, is so dirty. I passed car wash and took full advantage.

Looking at the job later, I noticed a few missed spots, but overall a decent job.
